In our experience, L-shaped hinges are the most commonly used. When the shutters are in the open position, the hinges are hidden behind the bulk of the shutter. The L shape allows pintels to be mounted upward or downward from the edge of the window, simplifying mouting in tight conditions.
These L-hinges are made from carbon steel, zinc plated and black powder coated. They measure 6" x 5", and have an opening for a required 1/2" diameter pintel barrel. Includes Stainless Steel #10 x 3/4 Panhead Phillips head screws, sold in sets of 4, 2 left and 2 right hinges
In harsh environments - especially near salt water - additional corrosion resistance is merited for hardware that will be exposed to the environment. We offer stainless steel pintels for these challenging conditions.
These L-hinges are made from 304 stainless steel and black powder coated. They measure 6" x 5", and have an opening for a required 1/2" diameter pintel barrel. Includes Stainless Steel #10 x 3/4 Panhead Phillips head screws.
Center hinges are designed to mount on the stile of a shutter. These shorter hinges don't provide as much reinforcement against sagging as longer shutters, so are most appropriate for places where L hinges are unusable - such as on an arched top shutter without a midrail.
These center hinges are made from 304 stainless steel and black powder coated. They measure 3 1/8" x 5 3/4", and have an opening for a required 1/2" diameter pintel barrel. Includes Stainless Steel #10 x 3/4 Panhead Phillips head screws.
Acme / Lull & Porter hinges are a classic design, dating back to the late 1800's. They are intended to be mortised into the shutter stile and window frame. They are lift off hinges which allow for easy removal of the shutters, but their design allows the shutter's own weight to lock it into place. Acme hinges do not require any additional hardware for function.
Acme hinges are made of cast iron. Except where note, they are supplied unfinished, and will need a coat of rustoleum or other protective paint to prevent corrosion. Hinges indicated as black have a black powder coating applied at the factory.
New York Style Hinges are light duty L-shaped hinges which come with included pintels. They are appropriate for shutters which won't see heavy use or carry significant weight.
New York hinges are constructer of standard carbon steel with a black powder coating.
Basic butt hinges are intended to be mortised into the stile of the shutters and the frame. These are free swinging and will need another to hold the shutters in position.
