We offer multiple louver sizes, and sometimes we're asked which louver size would be most appropriate. Even on non-functional shutters, conforming to tradition is often important to preserve the character of a home. So, how should you choose the size of louver appropriate for your home?
The easiest way to determine louver size is by considering latitude. The further north, the narrower the louver. In North America that suggests Vixen Hill's standard 1 3/8 width Philadelphia and North and their 1 3/4, 2 and 2 1/4 as you progress towards Florida and Louisiana. The reason for this has to do with the angle of the sun at different latitudes. And don't forget, louver shutters are generally used on the second floor and above while solid raised panel shutters on the first floor.
Like all rules of thumb, there is some variation, so you should check other homes around your neighborhood to see what blends in best. If you need additional assistance, feel free to call us, and one of our shutter experts will guide you through the process!
